Other Ministries
Pastor
The pastor is committed to the care of the people of God at Ashworth Road Baptist Church and to the increase of its number through biblically based evangelism. His responsibilities include proclamation, education, pastoral care, and directional leadership. As servant leaders, the pastor and staff seek to coordinate the ministries of the church as well as to develop and release spiritual leaders for the work of the ministry and the building up of the body of Christ.
Music Ministry
The Ashworth Road Baptist Church music ministry consists of a committed group of instrumentalists who accompany the worship service, a sanctuary choir composed of adults and youth, and children’s choirs. Instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles also aid in worship during special events and seasons of the year. The book of Ephesians teaches that God has gifted everyone to serve within the body of Christ. If you are gifted with musical talents and are called to serve in music ministry, ARBC has a place for you! Join us as we praise the Lord in song!
Children’s Ministry
The goal of the children’s ministry at ARBC is to provide a loving and nurturing place for children to learn about God and His love for them. This is done through weekly Bible study and missions education and during Vacation Bible School every summer. The children’s director provides a fun and loving example of a servant of Christ.
On Sunday nights, our children experience the new CBF missions curriculum introduced in June 2006.
Form™ helps shape the preschooler’s ideas about God, self and others through guided play. Preschoolers learn through experiences such as blocks, art, music, nature, puzzles, books, group time and CBF Global Missions field personnel stories.
School-aged children want to be active and experience missions. The curriculum is designed to Spark™ a child’s interest in missions through active learning experiences, such as field personnel profiles, food, the arts, games, cultural experiences and the Bible.
Wednesday nights, our children enjoy TeamKID, a fun, recreation-based discipleship program, which is a high-energy ministry that encourages kids to know Jesus Christ and to grow in a relationship with Him.
Boys and girls three-years-old through kindergarten hear Bible stories and apply spiritual truths to their daily lives, sing Bible-verse songs, pray, experience a variety of creative art and manipulative activities, play Bible-related recreational games, enjoy a snack, and have FUN! Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
Children in 1st through 5th grades are actively involved in memorizing scripture, hearing and participating in Bible stories, applying God’s Word to daily living, learning about missions, playing exciting games, singing, praying, and they enjoy delicious snacks that relate to the fun-packed Bible learning. Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.
Deacon Ministry
Ashworth Road Baptist Church deacons, who include both men and women elected by the church members to serve the congregation, are responsible for providing oversight to the church’s benevolence ministry. At each communion observance, a benevolence offering is received that is used to serve the needs of the congregation and the community. The deacons oversee the use of those benevolence funds and assist the pastor in meeting the needs of church members.
Each church member is assigned to a deacon, who is responsible for providing care and support through spiritual counsel and ministry in times of bereavement, hospitalization, and other spiritual and physical needs. Deacon “flocks” also gather during the year for fellowship.
Sunday School
Many experts credit Sunday School with providing the long-term foundation of a church. With classes for all ages, Sunday School is a very important ministry at ARBC. People go to places where they feel they have been prepared for and will be cared for. At 9:30 every Sunday morning, Ashworth Road Baptist Church provides an age-graded Bible study program through small group meetings with three purposes: spiritual growth (growing in spiritual knowledge and actions), outreach (reaching people for Christ and our church), and fellowship (caring for people through growing relationships). Our Sunday School programs provide a roadmap for our church family’s development and platforms for continued growth.
Missions
The Missions Committee at Ashworth Road Baptist Church is devoted to fulfilling Christ’s command to go into our local community, our nation and our world to serve the needs of those who have little. Mission trips have been sponsored to the Des Moines Friendship Center, the Murrow Children’s Home in Oklahoma, to Africa and to Thailand. For one month each year our services focus on missions and opportunities to serve. Church members of all ages are involved in programs that provide financial and other assistance to serve the poor in the Des Moines area through the Community Opportunity Group (COG), the Des Moines Area Religious Council food pantry, Hope Ministries, West Des Moines Human Services, Samaritan’s Purse and many others. Ashworth Road Baptist Church is fully committed to being the presence of Christ in the Des Moines area and beyond.
Fellowship
The Ashworth Road Baptist Church Fellowship Committee schedules events throughout the year to bring the church family together. These events include a Super Bowl Party featuring food, football and board games; an Around the World Potluck to emphasize the church’s commitment to missions; a Father's Day ice cream social; a summer church cookout; and many more breakfasts and potluck dinners. ARBC also joins with the Korean Baptist Church in the fall to share a multicultural picnic and celebrate our cooperative effort to serve Christ.
COG
COG (Church Opportunity Group) is a non-profit organization made up of 10 area churches, including Ashworth Road Baptist Church, that works with West Des Moines Human Services on projects for families and individuals in need. Projects include a Christmas shopping spree, free meal program, Thanksgiving Day dinner, collection of personal hygiene items and a senior citizen spring luncheon.
